JOB DESCRIPTION: Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent works directly with the Golf Course Superintendent to provide superior golf course conditions while providing a safe and friendly working environment for our employees and members.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the daily operations of the golf course and club grounds
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings
  • Assists in ordering supplies and materials within the budgetary limitations.
  • Helps in keeping records of annual maintenance activities including but not limited to chemical and fertilizer applications as required by law.
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude at all times
  • Must provide outstanding customer service to all members and guests
  • Assist in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, etc
  • Assist in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline
  • Schedules the daily work schedule and supervises the employees and their designated tasks/use of equipment
  • Assists in the programming, repair, and maintenance of irrigations system
  • Performs or supervises the implementation of an overall turf health program
    • This includes aeration, topdressing, and the application of pesticides, fertilizer, & chemicals to golf course turf
  • Operates an assortment of golf course equipment, including but not limited to mowers, top dresser, utility vehicles, blowers, rollers, trap rake, tractor, etc.
  • Mows golf course turf and performs daily course setup duties
  • Assists mechanic in maintaining and repairs to the golf courseequipment
  • Maintains clubhouse, golf shop, tennis and pool turf and landscaping
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, holidays, and occasionally after hours
  • Strong leadership communication, and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Perform all golf course tasks as required by Golf Course Superintendent

Working Conditions

  • Must adapt to extremes of temperature and inclement weather from outdoor working environment
  • Must be able to manage heavy equipment and lift heavy items

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and greens; and maintenance practices for golf course turf
  • Proper applications of fertilizers and chemicals including record keeping as required by local, state, and federal laws
  • Irrigation system operation, repair, andmaintenance
  • Equipment operation and maintenance procedures
  • Possess, enrolled in, or seeking a degree in a turf grass management related field or applicable experience
    • 3 to 5 years of past golf course experience may be an applicable substitute)

Texas pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain within 6 months

  • Experience managing and maintaining ultra dwarf greens and 419 Bermuda fairways, tees, and roughs preferred

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Directly To: Golf Course Superintendent

Salary Range: $70,000 to $80,000 (commensurate with experience)
